Welcome!

The Otterbein Neighborhood Association is an association of neighbors who live within the boundaries of 16th St, Sherman Dr., I-70, and Emerson Ave. on the East Side of Indianapolis.

We meet the third Thursday of each month at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 5009 East 21st St, at 6:30pm.  Please join to help make the Otterbein Neighborhood the best place to live and work on the East Side.

Special Meeting 8/21/25 6:00pm Otterbein UMC

The Otterbein Neighborhood Association will be holding a special meeting on August 21st at 6:00pm, in our regular location at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 5009 East 21st St.  Because attendance has been low for at least six months, we will be meeting to determine if we should change the frequency of our meetings, if we should combine our meetings with Little Flower’s, or if we should disband the association entirely.  If you have any interest in the neighborhood association continuing, we hope you will join us.  As always, you can send us an email with any questions or concerns.

Our neighbors at Living Word asked that we pass on this information about home renovation loans from their parishioner Wendell Stewart at Union Savings Bank:

Home Renovation Loan Criteria:

1. Home must be in low to moderate income tract area.
2. Home must be occupied by the applicant – this is for primary residential homes only.
3. Money is to be used for renovation purposes and receipts must be kept to verify – this is necessary for the grant to be forgiven.
4. Money is to be paid back in increments of $5.00 a month for 3 years and then forgiven.

Pastor Fletcher Interviewed on Good Citizen Podcast

Pastor Fletcher, of Living Word Baptist Church, was interviewed last week on the Good Citizen Podcast about the work they are doing to alleviate homelessness and the effects of the housing crisis on our community.  In partnership with Englewood Community Development Corp. and Community Health Network, Living Word built Providence Place, a 15-unit apartment community for individuals exiting homelessness and others who earn up to 80% of the area’s median income.  The Church owns several other properties throughout the Otterbein Neighborhood, which they rent to low-income residents.

Pastor Fletcher graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, a Master’s Degree in Special Education, and completed his Doctorate of Christian Education from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO.  He is a former high school teacher. Listen to the podcast at the Good Citizen Project website.

It is with great sorrow…

…that we announce our Sergeant at Arms, Randy Polvadore, passed away on April 18th, 2024. Randy lived his whole life in the Otterbein Neighborhood and was a long-time member of the Association. He enjoyed helping with community clean-ups and stuffing Easter Eggs for the annual egg-hunt at the Otterbein Church. He was always glad to share helpful information with the rest of the community as one of its most dedicated advocates. He was a good friend to many. He will be sorely missed.
